Head to Acushnet Avenue for Free Family Fun during Summerfest!

Artworks!

Located at 384 Acushnet Avenue in downtown New Bedford in a historic 130 year old building with four floors filled with galleries, classrooms, a ceramic studio, teen arts center, and an audio-visual computer lab—is an ideal setting for children's activities to coincide with Summerfest.

During the festival Artworks! scheduled special family and children's activities featuring a variety of craft activities for children of all ages including:

  • Paperbag puppets
  • Firework bookmarks,
  • Recycled rainsticks
  • Multi-colored tissue paper flowers

For outdoor fun, kids were able to blow giant bubbles in the alley next to Artworks.

The fun began at 12 noon and continued until 4pm both Saturday, July 3, and Sunday, July 4. While at Artworks! you could also take an opportunity to view the exhibit in the gallery www.artworksforyou.org

The New Bedford Art Museum artMOBILE

The artMOBILE was also parked at Acushnet Avenue and William Street from 2pm to 4pm. It operates much like a bookmobile, with a popular program much loved by the greater New Bedford community. Inside this purple bus was an opportunity for children to art-make under the guidance of trained art teachers.

Visitors could also take a break in the action and walk up William Street to Pleasant Street to the New Bedford Art Museum (608 Pleasant Street) and view the exhibit Taking Flight: The Birds of John James Audubon. This astounding exhibit presented 60 rarely seen works from the full collection housed at the New Bedford Free Public Library. The New Bedford Art Museum is open from 10am to 5pm. www.NewBedfordArtMuseum.org.
